This is a hardware compatibility list for portable computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a portable computer. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your portable x86 computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.4.11 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Kernels are available for most configured machines
Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)
For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!

This is the last stable release of OS X that supports Quartz Extreme (QE) and Core Image (CI), with GMA 900. Unless some talented and benevolent developer decides to rewrite the Leopard driver, Tiger is your only bet.
This installation was done with xXx_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev2. Some problems popped up that were inexistent in JaS' 4.6 release. Remember to partition your hard drive in MBR, and keep the names simple (no spaces). During install, check only the SSE2 in 'basic settings', don't bother with the additional kexts and kernels, and choose the right drivers. Any tutorial info can be found here, although it's a rather dated, and many issues are fixed since 10.4.6
Release-specific issues
Base Specs: Intel Celeron M 2.13 GHz | 1GB DD2 Memory | 40GB Fujitsu Internal IDE Hard Drive | 40GB Nexstar3 External USB Drive | Intel GMA 915 Graphics | Sigmatel STAC 9200 Audio | Broadcom Wireless Acrobat pro dc desktop software.
Installation: Had successful install of Mac dot Nub 10.4.10 on Nexstar3 External USB Drive. First, download Apple 10.4.11 Delta Update from Apple's Website. Second, follow instructions using OSx86Scene's Mini Guide
Patches: For 10.4.11 Patches, apply the System Profiler Patch. Need to re-apply 10.4.10 Patches, see the following 10.4.10 HCL Wiki
Applications: Downloaded and installed: iTunes 7.7, Quicktime 7.4.5, Thunderbird Portable 2.0.16, Firefox Portable 3.0.1, Flash 9 for Safari and Firefox.

Upgraded from Jas 10.4.8 -> 10.4.9 -> 10.4.10 -> 10.4.11 :) using Joe Cargo's method.
After successfully reaching 10.4.11, I replaced the kernel and system.kext with 8.9.1 (both from two packages on XxX 10.4.11 disc). I then swapped loginwindow.app with the vanilla 10.4.11 version without any obvious ill effects.
With QE/CI enabled, the Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo exhibits the usual mouse tearing problem. I completely resolved this using L_X's tearing solution involving Mighty Mouse and a special cursor scheme. The backlight doesn't shut off while idle, even with the power management patch and RadeonTool.
As noted above, the Ethernet driver is a bit flakey:- The MAC address is all zeros- Sometimes after a reboot the kext will be disabled (a message pops up indicating this as well). Deleting the kext cache (sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.*), followed by a reboot, will fix this. - Attempting to configure the Ethernet driver through the System Preferences/Network panel results in some major headaches. Leave it alone or use the terminal. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
This is a dualboot setup (XP Home/10.4.11). Had a previous install of 10.4.6 on HFS+ partition. Only used it to use the terminal to kextuncache and add custom kexts into the XxX_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev2.iso image. Added ATI ATA support for SB400 and used kextcache command to create a custom Extensions.mkext. This allows for proper boot of the XxX image without any 'still waiting for root device' errors or kernel panics. Added the new Extensions.mkext onto image using TransMac and also burned the iso using TransMac at lowest speed.

Last OSX 10.4 (Tiger) release that really 'works' with the X31 series - 10.5 (Leopard) does not have OpenGL/QE support for the original Radeon R100/RV200 series.unless someone port Callisto over. If you are going to run OSX on the machine, you might as well install this penultimate release for it.
This installation was done with xXx_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev02 - really great compendium CD.
Kernel should be the SSE2 combo with 8.9.1, install the SpeedStep patch with the Battery Monitor. Optional apps are great too.
Works
- Video(ATI Mobility Radeon M6) - works with QE/OpenGL/AGP GART, delete the original ATI kexts/OpenGL Framework, install the Radeon 7500 Pack, and then use the b06 Callisto kext packages. I have a quick-n-easy package for it - just ask for RageFury32 on the forums.
The 7500 pack on that CD will work, BUT it'll also give you blue background images. Minecraft purchase options. The quick-and-easy pack will eliminate that.
The M6 will not use CoreVideo, the RSS screensaver will crash - so don't even bother
- Audio - You'll need AppleAC97Audio.kext. Just kextload and it should work fine. You don't need SoundFlowerBed to get the audio working
- Ethernet - Need the AppleIntel8255x.ext kext from 10.4.5
- USB devices - Works fine
- Power management and SpeedStep - works - keeps CPU from overheating by clocking it back - Tux's utility is by far the best
- Trackpoint - Works fine
- Wireless - Went with an Atheros based Mini-PCI b/g/n card (SparkLAN WMIA-207N) - works as long as you run the Airport Extreme update for 10.4.11
- Webcam - My Sony EyeToy Webcam works out of the box with macam installed. Very nice.
- Cardbus Slot - Haven't tested yet.
- Analog Modem (Conexant Winmodem) - haven't tested, does not see by default.
- iTunes 8.0 and Safari 3.it's okay to run the software update for those - security update is very much at your discretion - might want to set the speedstep clock up to at least 800MHz if you plan to use iTunes
- MPlayer OSX - works.
- Microsoft Entourage 2008 - works.
- Cisco VPN Client - works.
- MacFUSE + NTFS-3G drivers - works, provide NTFS write-back ability with a speed hit.
Doesn't work'
'- Sleep function - doesn't work, and Voodoo Kernel only works for 10.5 machines.
Might be a good idea to turn off auto-sleep completely inside the power profile.

Detailed install instructions here . . . . Can i use google chrome on my mac.
Installed from xXx_OS_x86_10.4.11_Install_Disc_rev2. used the SSE2 combo, ATI Radeon 7500, generic audio driver, AGPart 1.2, Broadcom patch and software as you wish. i have the Broadcom 4320 so i have wifi support using the patch. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Installed from xXx_OS_x86_10.4.11. To avoid booting into a blue screen you just need the 2-wire trick here , or you can simply plug an external monitor on it.
